First Day of School - 2013 - Eliza Kindergarten and Gretta 2nd

The girls were so excited to start school!!! They picked out their own back to school outfits, and got themselves all ready. I made a check list of things to do in the morning, and it has been super helpful. I drove them today because I helped with Kindergarten Line  Up. It was fun to get to school a little early and see all of our friends arrive.
The kids go to the back of the school and put their back packs in line where their classes lines up and then go out and play on the playground. Most of the kindergartners just stayed in line, since it was the first day and they didn't know what else to do, but not Eliza. She followed Gretta straight out to the playground.
I helped walk her class in, so I snapped a picture of her sitting at her desk. No tears. She was very brave.
She told me on Monday she was only going the first day of school and then would think about going back depending on how Day #1 went. Well I am happy to report when I picked her up she was excited to go back tomorrow.
Morning drop off went well. Then Carli and I ran some errands and were bored by 10:30. We sure missed Gretta & Eliza.
I took a nap while Carli was napping and forgot to set an alarm. I woke up to my friend calling who I was suppose to help her get the kindergartners back on the bus after school, but I didn't wake up until 4:10. I hurried and called the office and went and picked them up from the office. They were so sad I forgot them and that they didn't get to ride the bus. We went to Dairy Queen after to make up for it.
I am sure it will be a story that is funnier in the future than it was today.
Today I felt like an Epic Failure of a Mom. Who falls asleep and forgets to pick their kids up?!?
The sure looked sad when I got to the office finally to get them.

Eliza first day of School Snack for the Class

My friend Melissa James-Jones sent me this cute snack idea for the girls this year. Since Eliza loves butterflies and she was taking snack on the first day of school we decided to go all out. The girls loved helping make the butterflies and Eric was even nice enough to stuff the grapes and gold fish in the baggies.
They were a big hit!

Warren Dunes- Labor Day 2013

Monday we went to Warren Dunes State Park. We had never been there before during the summer and had a great time.
We sure love the beach! Carli especially loves the beach! Warren Dunes also has a big inflatable slide that Eric took the girls down.
It was a fun last hurrah before the girls start school tomorrow.

Cousin Fun in MN

We drove over to Anna & Gabe's on Thursday. The girls were so excited to see their cousins. We made the drive on Thursday without to much trouble except we accidentally ended up going to Milwaukee. It might have turned out better because the road we should have taken had a lot of road construction on it. The girls were much better travelers than I expected especially since our DVD player is broken. I have an awesome Visiting Teacher who let me borrow her portable DVD player and also make my kids a cute travel bag with treats and games in it.
The girls were asleep by the time we got to Anna & Gabe's they had to wait until the next day to see the cousins. We celebrated Anna's birthday when we got to her house with a great ice cream chocolate cake. Happy Birthday Anna!
Friday Gabe had to go to work, but the rest of us went to the RAC and hung out. We played in the indoor play area, had lunch there and then went swimming.
Friday night Eric and Gabe took the kids to Chuck E Cheese while Anna threw a baby shower for a lady in her ward and I went to the baby shower with her.
Saturday we went to the Irish festival and to the park. Then Saturday afternoon Anna got out the slip n slide and kiddy pool. The kids had such a great time. I am sad I didn't get any better picture because I was afraid my phone would get wet. But it was fun to see Eric slip n slide with the kids.
Saturday night we had a nice dinner on the deck and then the kids did a talent show for us.
Sunday we drove home.
It was a great trip and we are so glad that we were able to go.
Thanks Anna & Gabe for being such great hosts!!!
Love,
Gretchen
