Gretta's 5 year well child check up

I took Gretta in for her well child check up today.
Here are her stats:
Weight 47 lbs  80%
Height 45.5 inches  90%
BMI 16.5 which is 60%
She really wanted to be 48 inches tall so that when we go to Disneyland this month she can ride Indiana Jones. Maybe with big shoes and her ponytail on top of her head she can squeeze by, but most likely not. Oh well.
She is doing great. She is right on track with her gross motor skills, social development and physical development. She is smart too!
I can't believe she is going to go to kindergarten this fall! She is growing up too fast!
We love you Gretta!

Family Home Evening

Tonight for our Family Home Evening activity we made valentine's cookies. I know it is kind of early, but we are going to California this weekend for Papa Goodrich's 92nd birthday and will be gone almost 1 week. By the time we get back it will almost be Valentine's day. Gretta made invitations yesterday for 5 of her girl friends to come to a little Valentine's party on Valentine's day. She is so excited.

Sunday Dinner with Lewis'

Sunday we had dinner with our good friends Chris & Amanda Lewis. Amanda & Chris Lewis have been my friends since Amanda and I graduate in from BYU together in August 2001. Amanda and I also went though our graduate program together at BYU and graduated together in 2004. There were only 5 people in our class, so we sent a lot of time together.  Chris & Amanda were part of the BYU group who traveled to Ecuador in the summer of 2004. Chris was our Spanish translator, so I spent a lot of time with them while we were in Ecuador. We also traveled to the Amazon river together.
It has been so much fun being back in Utah and living close to them. We have gotten together at least once a month since coming back. Gretta & Eliza love to see Bryant and Grant. Amanda is a friend I would love to have as a next door neighborhood for my whole life. She is just a great person and a wonderful friend. We sure had a nice time at Sunday dinner at their house. Thanks so much!!! We will miss you guys in Michigan.

Snow shoeing

Sorry this picture is sideways. I forgot my camera and this came from my cell phone. I am just amazed I figured out how to get the picture to the blog from the cell phone.
Saturday we went snow shoeing as a family. It was a really beautiful Utah winter day, and we had a good time. After snow shoeing for a while we went sledding too. I wish I had more pictures to show what a beautiful day it was and what a good time we had.
We might get everyone snow shoes for Christmas next year. We figure it could be a fun winter family activity in Michigan.  I have been watching the weather in Michigan and they sure get a lot of snow, so we better find some ways to make the best of it.

BYU vs. SDSU - World meet Jimmer, Jimmer meet world!

So BYU basketball has been on a tear of late. And I wanted a piece of the action. They had a marquee match-up slated with  then #4 San Diego State University at the Marriott Center. BYU entered the game ranked 9th. In order to even get into the game, I had to go with a group of MBA students on TUESDAY at 12 noon to get a wristband for a game that didn't even start until 8pm on Wednesday. Let's just say BYU came away with several "lessons learned" after the whole 2 day ordeal!

Finally, game day came and no one could concentrate in their classes, we were so pumped for the game. I went to the grocery store during a break from classes and bought some posterboards and markers to let our voices be heard. BTW, I got the 116th wristband given out to students. Pretty proud of myself.

Below you can see some of the signage we made, "Fredette About It", "Jimmer's in range when he gets off the bus", "Jackson makes it Emery time".

So on game day, we had to show up at the Marriott Center at 4pm for a 8pm start time - don't ask me why. Everyone had to line up according to the number on their wristband. As you can see below, these were some of the last of the 5000 students to line up. They are wrapped all the way around the Marriott Center and it's only 6pm!!

Here's everyone lining up behind the KSL newsanchor before he went on the air to talk about the game.

Here we are with our primetime seats. We were on the 5th row of the Marriott Center! Best seat I've ever had there. And might I say, it was a HARD ticket to come by, especially if you were a church General Authority. I counted or saw the following GAs at the game: Elder Neil Anderson (of the 12), D. Todd Christofferson (of the 12), Jay E. Jensen (Pres of 70), Ronald Rasband (Pres of 70), Garrett Gong (70), Richard C. Edgley (Pres Bishopric), Craig Zwick (70), Cecil Samuelson (70).  This was the most I've ever seen at one game.

The bright light below was from the TV announcers pregame session. Game was on some obscure network called CBS College Sports. Apparently, only 15 people in the US get the channel. Hallelujah for ESPN next year!

A shot looking up at the student section. We 5000 strong were packed in like sardines well over 2 hours before tipoff and we were already getting loud!

This is a picture of yours truly on the floor. That's right, the student section rushed the floor after the Big W!!

If you look closely at the lower left hand corner of the screen, you'll see a white-haired man's head in between 2 college students. That is Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the 12.

Me with some of my MBA comrades who also rushed the floor. Merritt Aho (left), Graham Orme (middle)

This was one of the best entries in student signage at the game. As you might tell, this is a roughly 5 foot by 5 foot image of Jimmer Fredette's head!! They held it up during the game and I thought it was crazy!!

After every BYU bball game now, the tradition is to ring the bell after a victory. So I got the opportunity to ring the victory bell after the big game. All in all, an event I will not soon forget. I'll also be able to tell my kids I got to see the one called Jimmer play before he made it big in the NBA!!

Fun Day!

No pictures today because I forgot the camera at home. Oh well. The girls and I went up to the Discovery Gateway. I haven't been then with them since last Spring before we left for Michigan. They went a few weeks ago with cousin Lauren. We had a great time. We played house, rode the horse, filled up the car with gas and even attended a fun art class where they made collages. Then we went to lunch. Gretta was so excited to show me this "magical" place that has lots of food choices to pick from, so that everyone can have what they want an all eat together. I think Lauren took them to the food court last time they were there and now Gretta is hooked! Of course she wanted Panda Express. No surprise there and Eliza wanted french fries. Once again no surprise.
On the way home we stopped to WinCo to get some chocolate coins and fortune cookies for our upcoming Chinese New Year Party! I don't think the girls had ever seen the big bins of candy before, and they were pretty excited. We also go some candy for our Valentine's Party.
WinCo was OUT of Fortune Cookies. They told me they are back ordered. I guess everyone else in Utah must be having  Chinese New Year Party too. Oh well. I can get them when I order the take-out for the party.
Then Gretta had art class which she loved. While she was at art. Eliza and I took Eric the camera. He waited in line yesterday to get a wrist band to get into tonight's BYU Basketball game vs San Diego State. Then even with the wristband he had to show up at 4pm and get in line to wait for the 8pm game! Go Cougars!!!

Since we were home along tonight we had a low key dinner followed by some dancing in the family room to Disney music, and then stories and bed. It was so much fun to spend so much time with them today. I let Gretta skip preschool. Right now we are so busy I feel that I don't get to spend enough time with them, so it was fun to just have a whole girls day together. They are at such fun ages. It is also fun to see then play so well together.

***Update!!! Eric made it into the game and is on the 4th row! At half time the Cougars are behind by 1. Go Cougars!!!!

Chicken Dance at the BYU Women's Basketball game

Saturday while I went to Walmart, Eric took the girls to the BYU women's basketball game. The crowd was small and they had good seats. The highlight was Gretta getting to do the "Chicken Dance" on the court.

Getting ready for her big debut.

Gretta and our neighbor, Sydney, with the BYU cheerleader.

Pops comes to visit

My dad came to visit on Thursday night. Friday we went skiing at Sundance. It was a beautiful day! The sun was shining and the ski was blue. We had a nice time.

Friday night we went to Chinese food and then checked out a new place in town, Provo Beach Club. They have just about any family friendly activity you can think of. The girls got to ride the carousel twice. Thanks Pops!

 Saying good bye!

Pops did a few projects around the house while he was here. He fixed the fence, and hung up these pictures.
Don't they make you want to come visit us in Michigan!
Thanks Pops for coming!

Happy MLK Day!

We went bowling at the Wilkinson Center at BYU today. Eliza insisted on  wearing her tutu and Gretta didn't want to use the bowler helper. The crazy thing is the score!!! Eric and I tied and the girls tied. How is that even possible with the variability of bowling.
We had  fun time. We went to IN & OUT for lunch afterward. Plus it was 55 deg outside. After two weeks of temps below 30 deg it was wonderful!!!
Can you see the tie. Eric and I got 112 and Eliza & Gretta 95. Crazy!

Salt Lake Temple & Temple Square

Eric and I went to a session at the Salt Lake Temple while Lauren, Eric's cousin, watched the girls at the Discovery Gateway Children's Museum. The girls had a really good time with Lauren and enjoyed playing dress up at the museum.
We ran into some friends at the Temple which is always fun, and enjoyed being inside such a beautiful
Temple. It is amazing to think that the pioneers built that Temple living in poverty and during such difficult times. It is just amazing.
Then we went to lunch at the Lion House Pantry and toured the Beehive House. Afterward we went to the new Children's Book of Mormon exhibit in the Church History Museum. It was a wonderful Spirit filled day.
