Cross Country Trip Day #3- Exeter, NE to Cheyenne, WY

Cousin Alan Songster gave us a tour of his farm and took us to Fairmont, NE where Papa Herbert Goodrich grew up in the morning.

First we went to see all of his farm equipment. We were all impressed by the size of the everything and how much equipment he has. What also impressed me is that he has a HUGE farm and is able to plant and harvest with the help of 3-4 people. In the old days before all this farm equipment it would have taken 100 + people to do all that work.

Gretta is small, but this thing is HUGE!
Eric getting a lesson on how to drive a tractor. This tractor even has GPS to help keep the rows straight! Isn't that amazing!
Then off to Fairmont, NE

This is what is left of a big Air base from WWII which was built on some of the Goodrich land.

The new Ethanol plant

Papa's mother was a Thompson. Her is the stone that was in front of their home.

The church Papa grew up going to.

The Goodrich family headstone. Both of Papa's parents and his Goodrich & Thompson grandparents are buried here along with his older brother.
We then had a nice lunch with the Songsters and headed on to see Annie and Roland Hall who are also cousins. Gretta loved the toy horse. She rode it all around the living room.
Riding in the back of Rolly's old pick up truck. Yes those are lawn chairs!
As we drove around the fields Gretta thought it was as much fun as a roller coaster ride.

Gretta, Annie and Eliza

Checking the chicken coup.
Catching and petting a chicken. Eliza wasn't scared, but it took a while to talk Gretta into it.
Good old Herbie Husker. Go Nebraska!!!
We sure had a great time visiting the farm and enjoying the Songster's hospitality and Annie's pies.

Then it was on to Cheyenne, WY.  It was a long drive, but we made it by bed time. After we left the corn fields of Nebraska there wasn't much more to see. Did you know that Wyoming is the least populated State of the Union. Did you also know that the headquarters of Cabela's is located in WY.
We had booked a hotel ahead of time because I was so worried that they wouldn't have any rooms due to Sturges, and I didn't make a very good choice.
Luckily we slept though the train noise just fine.
