Memorial Weekend Trip- Day 1 Kirtland, OH

We left Thursday night after work. It took us a little longer to get out of town than expected, but we were on the road by 6:30pm headed to Cleveland, OH. We booked a hotel room on Hotwire for $39 with tax it came to $50.00. We drove straight to Cleveland, about 4 hours. The girls were great in the car. They were a sleep when we pulled into the hotel. The hotel was okay, but what do you expect for $39. We got a good night sleep and then  headed to Kirtland Friday morning. Our first stop was the Morley Farm. The Isaac Morley Farm was a gathering place for many of the members who came to Kirtland. Joseph Smith lived at the farm for 6 months in 1831. There he received 13 revelations, which are not included in the Doctrine and Covenants. Also, many meetings were held in the schoolhouse that once stood on the farm.

Then we headed to Historic Kirtland where we visited the Newel K. Whitney Store.
The store provided rooms for Church meetings, offices, and a home for Joseph Smith and his family.
He kept great records and at most times had $2,500 worth of merchandise on hand when a days labor earned 50 cents.

This is the upper room where the "School of the Prophet" was held.

Their kitchen and "living"room

Then we saw the Johnson Inn.

The Newel K and Elizabeth Ann Whitney Home.

The Saw Mill

The Ashery

The Kirtland Temple that is now owned by the Community of Christ Church

Then we drove to Rochester, NY and had dinner with our good friends Danny & Mary Rogers. Mary was my roommate in the Meringue House just before Eric and I got married. Danny was in our dinner group and Danny and Mary got married in May 2004. We haven't seen them in 6 years. Now between the two families we have 5 kids, They have a 2 month old named Gretta too! Plus a 4 and a 2 year old.
It was fun to see them and the kids had a great time playing with their kids. Then we drove to Palmyra, NY

It was sure a great day! Spending time in Kirtland strengthened my testimony of  the Prophet Joseph Smith, and the sacrifice of the early saints.
