The Great Flood of 2013 (part 1)
As you may know, our rental is the lowest conceivable point in the surrounding neighborhood. What does that mean? Not much when it's sunny and dry. But, when it's wet and raining cats and dogs, we got problems, wet problems.
We have had water in our basement before. The owners have had to bring in a company to blow dry the carpets and pads with industrial strength blowers. For the amount of water we get in Michigan, I think it's a great business idea...lots of headaches and mad customers, but, definitely demand is there.
Two weeks ago, Gretchen was down in the basement turning off the lights, when she noticed that the carpet near the window well was wet....Call #1 to Heaven Scent Flood Repair Company. They came and brought blowers to dry out the carpets and walls. The dryers were here for three days. They came on the 4th day and took out the dryers. Not but two hours later, I was down in the basement again checking the window well before we headed to bed and I noticed the carpets were wet. Had we been bamboozled? So the owner comes back out to check to see if the water was new or old. He made a valid point that if it had been the same water, it would have been smelling awful. Such was not the case. So it looks like water had come into the basement again. However, this time it didn't appear to have entered in through the window well like last time. Mystery...
The last photo is of our good friend, Harold Gretzky, who brought over a wet/dry vaccuum as well as a submersible pump to help alleviate the lack of drainage in the window well. More to come as the story unfolds...
