Day Trip to Guaruja

My neighbor Dani invited us to go to the beach on Monday. We went to Guaruja which is about 1 hour from Sao Paulo without traffic. When we left town I was a little worried about the weather it didn't look great, but I figured a day at the beach even if it was cloudy was better than no day at the beach. The drive to the beach involves going through at least 3 big and very long tunnels. One tunnel is 3200 meters, another 2800 meters, and the last one 3100 meters. That's over 6 miles of tunnels! They were impressive. Sao Paulo is about 2500 feet above sea level and we had to go down to sea level in a real quickly. I guess the old road had a lot of switch back We hit HORRIBLE traffic on the way which added about 2 hours to our trip. So instead of taking 1 hour it took 3 hours. Luckily once we got to the beach it was beautiful and sunny and we soon forgot about traffic!!!  Eliza's favorite part was that you sit at your spot on the beach the vendors come to you. The girls got their hair braided, ankle bracelets, we at burnt cheese sticks, tapiocia (Gretta got Nutella and bananas), and bought sun glasses. After we were done we got ice cream. Remember my favorite yogurt place at home is Yogurtland. Well I think the pay per ounce idea started in Brazil. The ice cream place was pay per kilo. You get to scoop it out yourself and chose from 30+ flavors and add toppings too.   We had a great time and luckily the ride home was much better:)
Thanks Dani for a great day at the beach!!!
