Grandma Gretta's Funeral
Gretta Jeanne Brossard Huff's funeral was held on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at the Park Center Ward Building. It was a lovely affair. She would have been so happy to know that over 100 people attended. She was always worried that no one would attend her funeral. She was mostly worried about that because she out lived all of her sisters and brother. She even out lived her baby sister Barbara.
Ever one of Grandma's three children, children's spouses, ten grandchildren and grand children's spouses and all eleven great grandchildren were present. Our family took up 4 pews of the church.
My Uncle George gave a wonderful life sketch. My Grandmother lived a wonderful 96 years. Then Del Parkison played Clare De Lune by Debussy. He is a concert pianist who teaches at Boise State. He took typing from my Grandmother when he was in 9th grade in Blackfoot, Idaho. Then my mom spoke. She did a great job. You could really feel how much she loved her mother. My Grandfather and Mom have really served my Grandmother with Christ like service in the last few months of her life.
Then my Aunt Jeanne and Del Parkinson played an Organ/Piano duet. This was followed by some remarks from a family friend who use to be their Bishop.
It was a wonderful spirit filled service, and a great tribute to my Grandmother.
Here are some pictures from the Graveside service at Pioneer Cemetery.

Gretta looking so sad.
Gretta was really upset by the days events. She told me that we saw Grandma in the bed and then kissed her good bye. She really loved Grandma. Grandma also really loved Gretta. I know that our trip to Boise was different without her, and Gretta noticed.

Papa Jack Babysitting
My grandmother's funeral was lovely. Thank you to everyone for the nice comments about her passing. She was a great woman!
The next few posts will chronicle our trip to Boise.
We actually already had already booked tickets a long time ago to visit Boise Labor Day weekend. We thought we were going to Boise to see my family. Little did we know when we bought the tickets it was going to turn into a different kind of weekend. However, it is pretty amazing how it worked out. It would have been very difficult, and expensive to get tickets to Boise Labor Day weekend last minute. I have to believe that there was some divine intervention in how things turned out.
Gretta, Eliza, and I went up to Boise on Wednesday. Gretta has turned into a good traveler. She knows the routine. We get on the bus (the Fly Away) to the airport, check in, and then get on the airplane. Gretta's favorite part is when the flight attendant brings drinks. She use to get apple juice, but she now knows they serve soda. Both Gretta and Eliza took naps, so I actually got to read a little bit of the Ensign and enjoy a few minutes of peace and quite.
Wednesday night after the kids were in bed my mom and I decided to make a late night run to Walmart. My dad was a little nervous about the kids waking up. I told him he had nothing to fear, and then we were off. Just as we walked into Walmart he called and told me that Gretta woke up screaming. He didn't know quite what to do, so he put her on the sofa and turned on an Elmo DVD.
When we got home this is what we found...

Gretta Jeanne Brossard Huff
June 16, 1912 - August 24, 2008
Grandpa & Grandpa Huff
My Grandmother passed away today in her sleep. She was 96 years old and had lived a very full life. I know that my Grandmother has passed on to a better place, but it is still sad that she won't be part of our life here on earth any longer. She will be missed.
I am named after my grandmother, and so is Gretta. It has been such a privilege and an honor to be named after such an amazing and special person. My Grandmother had a special enthusiasm for life. She loved to be the life of the party, she loved to help others, and she was a very caring and kind person.
My Grandparents moved to Boise when I was a child, so I got to spend lots of time with them. I have many memories of my Grandmother doing daily activities with me and being part of my daily life. She was always such a good champion of her grandchildren. She loved me very much. She also loved my children very much, especially Gretta.
When I went away to college my Grandmother wrote me every week. She would always include a dollar in each letter, and I remember I would use it to do my laundry for the week. She also wrote me each week of my mission. She wanted to make sure that I felt loved. She use to say that Grandchildren don't really realize that grandparents love them as much as their own parents. I know that my Grandma loved me and my family too.
My Grandmother always had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She had so much faith. One of my favorite memories is being in the Temple with my Grandmother.
We will miss you Grandma!
Love,
Gretchen

After the recital with her flowers.
On Saturday Gretta had her first dance recital. It was a huge success. She has really enjoyed dance class and can't wait for it to start again. All of the kids looked so cute and enjoyed preforming for the crowd. Gretta especially enjoyed her grass skirt, and flower lei. I am sure this will be the first of many dance recitals.

This is the first time during the week we got Shave Ice. Gretta wasn't really ready to branch out yet and stuck with her favorite chocolate ice cream. However, this was the last time all week she picked ice cream over a shave ice.
Isn't that the cutest chocolate covered face you have ever seen?
I am not sure Eliza was having such a great time. Maybe she was just sad she couldn't partake of the breastfast feast.
