Market and International Newcomers Club

This morning after I dropped Carli off at school I went for a walk around the park by our house and then walked down the street to the market. We saw a sign for the market on our Sunday walk last weekend. It happens every Wednesday about 5 blocks from our house.
It's amazing!!! I was impressed at the selection of fruits, vegetables, and other offerings.  I wish I had had my camera to take a picture. How they displayed the fruits and vegetables were stunning and everything looked delicious. There was also a flower vendor, people selling odds and ends and a cart where the man was making fresh coconut shavings. Plus a hot foot cart selling the little pastries my kids really like. I need to find a friend who speaks Portuguese to go with me next time so I can feel comfortable buying stuff. The prices looked cheaper than the grocery store and the selection was much bigger and everything looked so fresh.
When I picked Carli up from school she was excited to see me, but they reported she had a good day. She got a little diary today and they marked what they had for snack and wrote a note about  how excited they are to have her in their class.

Then I came home and feed her lunch. Let's just say I never knew pancakes could be so messy!
Just after I got her and everything cleaned up Eric came home. He was nice enough to come home for lunch, so I could go to the monthly newcomers lunch.
It was my first solo outing to a place I hadn't been before, but it wasn't to far away and I made it. The only problem was that I thought the restaurant would have parking or valet and it didn't which meet I had to street park. I am a horrible at parallel parking. Luckily the next block up there was a spot I could back right into. Yeah!
It was nice to meet some new ladies. I sat right next to a lady who has also been here just a little while and she happens to live only 3 blocks from me. Yeah! She also told me she bought stuff at the market this morning, so it looks like I found my Portuguese speaking friend to go with!!! She has a 5 year old son. She is native Brazilian, but has live in England and Germany. They just moved from Germany. She said she loves Germany and feels so at home there, and it has been rough to be back in Sao Paulo even though she grew up here. She likes the order of Germany and Sao Paulo is not very orderly.  Interesting!
The lady across from me was from the Ann Arbor area. I have heard that there are a lot of other people from Michigan here due to the Auto industry. Her husband works in fiance for Ford.  The lady to my left got here about 3 months ago. Her husband works at the Consult. They have lived in Argentina, Morocco, South Korea, and 2 other places I can't remember. She raved about living in South Korea. They lived there for 5 years and loved it. It's safe, easy to navigate, there are lots of other Americans and a PX. She said Sao Paulo has already been one of the hardest. Also interesting!  Both of the other ladies have kids in College back in the US.
I made it there and back without making a wrong turn, but I did end up with a flat tire. Who knows if it was my backing up job or a nail, or what. I didn't know what to do and didn't figure out it was flat until I was on my way home. Some nice moto boy kept trying to get my attention to tell me what was wrong and get me to pull over, but everyone keeps telling me moto boys are also known for car jacking, so I just kept driving. I figured it was safer to come home than pull over somewhere random. Luckily work sent someone to get the car and have the tired fixed. Where is AAA when you need them!
It was great to go to lunch and get out of the house. The restaurant was good! They had a set lunch menu which a salad bar, choice of one of three main dishes and a side and a strawberry tart for dessert.  I had a very nice salad and sea bass with risotto. I think they cooked my sea bass in a whole stick of butter. The funny thing is I ordered salmon, but they were out of salmon and didn't say anything until they brought the meal. Luckily I liked it too. I am usually pretty picky about fish.
It was so nice of Eric to come home and work while Carli napped. It really made my day!
The girls reported having good days at school and we had an uneventful evening.
Eric reports everything is going well at work too.
I would say for only being here 3 weeks I think we are doing great!!!!
