It was great to have Eric home with us today! First we went to the Temple. I drove and Eric navigated because I want to be able to go sometime by myself, but we got lost, so I guess we need to try again, and go the right way that time. But luckily we made it. When I told the girls we were going to the Temple Eliza's first questions was how long was it going to take to get there. It takes over 2 hours to get to the Chicago Temple from our house, so I think she was worried it was going to be a long car ride. It ended up taking us about an hour, but that was because we were lost. I think it's only really about 25 mins from our house. We did end up driving through a really nice part of Sao Paulo. It looked like Michigan Ave back at home and had a Tiffany's so I am pretty sure it was a nice part of town. It had nice big sidewalks and was beautiful. Maybe we will need to go back and walk around that area someday.
It felt great to be at the Temple!!! Eric and I took turns during initiatory's. It did stress a few Temple works out that I didn't speak and Portuguese, but in the end it worked out just fine. They were more worried about it than I was. That's what's amazing about being at the Temple. Even thought the language is different the ordinances are the same, so it was easy for me to follow along.
While I was in the Temple Eric took the girls to a park that was near by. Eliza reported the park even had ducks, just like back at home. While Eric was in the Temple we ate our lunch and walked around the grounds. There is a Stake Center right next to the Temple and also an Missionary Training Center (MTC).
After the Temple we went Walmart which is right across the street. They had the most amazing escalators that you could push your cart on and then the cart was locked in so you could go up and down the floors. We were able to buy some plastic plates, cups, and a few other kitchen things we needed. Plus we got the girls a soccer ball so they aren't always trying to steal the other kids at the skate park and I got a hat to replace my black one I left at home and a little chair I can take with me and sit on while I watch the kids at the skate park and Carli at the playroom. It's already hard for my pregnant body to sit on the ground for to long. I am so excited to have plastic plates, etc. We are living in a very nice apartment and the glasses are all glass the the dishes very nice. It was stressing me out to let the kids use them. We already broke one glass, so it takes a lot of stress off me to have some kid friendly dishes:)
Then we came home and Caril and I took a nap while Eric took Gretta & Eliza swimming. I think I have been so tried because I am not 100% over the cold I got just before we left. I am worried it has turned into a sinus infection. Luckily I have a dr appt next week so if I am still feeling bad hopefully I can get something.
On the way home we saw two Elder walking down the street. Since coming here I have been thinking more about how inspired the Missionary Program of the Church is that we send Missionaries Two by Two. Part of it's because we believe that, "..that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word my be established," (Matthew 18:16)
But I also think it provides many other blessing to having someone else with you at all times. It provides safety, protection, the ability to have someone to lean on during tough times. I was thinking about my first few weeks in Hong Kong and realized that because I was paired with a companion who had been in HK for a while and was familiar with the area and language I had someone to show me the ropes and help me.
That's what I could really use now to help navigate the city and get all settled. So on that note it was great to have Eric home with us today. Maybe he doesn't know everything about Sao Paulo yet, but at least he can speak and understand more Portuguese than I can. In fact I am super impressed with this ability to communicate with people already.
It was a great day!
