Gretta's School Open House

Saturday morning we attended Gretta's School Open House. It was a rainy day in Sao Paulo which caused some logistical problems for the school. They were planning on having the kids on a stage outside in a larger area, but because it was raining we were ALL JAMMED into one small covered space. Remember space is at a premium in Sao Paulo. One of the things that Gretta misses most from EP Clark is the large playground and on days like today having an indoor gym would have been very helpful. I am never going to think that the EP Clarke gym is crowded ever again after this experience!!!! I made the mistake of thinking that the first row of the section in the back would give us more room and give Carli some space, but what it turned into was TONS of people standing in front of us and in our personal space. Eric took a few pictures of how crowded it was, but I am not sure you can really appreciate it from looking at the pictures. When it was Gretta's classes turn I stood right up trying to get into the front section so we could see her. I was at the front of the line, but somehow the chairs all got filled in from the back before I could get a seat. The only nice thing was that one of Gretta's teachers stood up and said, "Can I get a seat for the pregnant lady?" So some nice dad got up for me and I got a seat where I could actually see.
Gretta was the narrator for her class. She got the job because they all auditioned and who ever could say it best got to do it. She did have a big advantage over the other kids because memorizing something in English was a lot easier for her than the others.
She did a great job! They had decorated the school with all of the kids Art work and projects for the year. It looks like it was a productive year.

I am sitting behind all of the people standing. I guess a walk way is only a suggestion. This picture really doesn't do the situation justice!

The other crazy thing was that the parents wouldn't get quite even when the teacher asked them to quite down. People were even talking on their cell phone while the kids were preforming which made it hard for people to hear their kids.

We took the girls to McDonald's afterwards to celebrate! McDonald's is a big treat here because it's so expensive. A happy meal cost about $8 USD.
